Domaine de Chateaumar Rose
The Castel Mar (Chateaumar) estate dates back to the 11th century and is operated today father and son team Jean-Felix and Frederic Souret. They practice organic farming, using no pesticides and no chemical fertilizers on their property that includes 12 acres in the north of Chateauneuf-du-Pape and 25 acres bordering the classified appellation. This rose is a blend of 90% Grenache and 10% Mourvedre, including fruit from their acclaimed Chateauneuf vineyards! Just like their Cuvee Bastien Grenache we were in awe of this rose as soon as we tasted it. Leaning towards that Provencal style, with pale pink tones and a peachy hue. The nose is gorgeous with fresh picked strawberries, raspberries, nectarines, wild flowers, and hints of pepper and limestone. Light and fine on the palate, there’s more ripe fruits and a long elegant finish that’s bright with stony minerals and bright acidity. Delicious and refreshing by itself, would also pair well with seafood dishes and charcuterie and cheeses too.

Chateaumar Description
“This wine’s intense pink rose petal color is slightly darker and more robust than the rosés of nearby Provence, which is indicative of the wine itself. A nose of macerated strawberries, raspberries, and peaches, with a faint earthy and peppery base, comes together with a fresh clay minerality on the soft, round, and slightly weighty palate. Well-integrated ripe cherry skin acidity is key in retaining this sturdy rosé’s balance and freshness, making it a fine companion for richer foods like grilled lamb loin chops, burgers, spicy sausages, fresh tomato sauced pastas, and mezze platters.” – Importer
